Inside BBC Homes Under the Hammer house branded 'worst on road' in Erdington

A home in Erdington once branded the ‘worst on the road’ now looks totally different as it has been completely transformed by an auction buyer on BBC Homes Under the Hammer.

Two brothers snapped up the three-bedroom, semi-detached property, which had a measly guide price of just £25,000 on Monday’s show. They, though, paid more than six times that and eventually won the home for £152,000.

Host Dion Dublin warned viewers about the exterior of the property as he showed it to them, telling watchers of the programme: “It does look a little bit battered and bruised on the outside, but the inside is going to be brilliant.” The brothers, who run a construction company, had a budget of £30,000 to do up the property, but ended up exceeding that total, spending £57,500.

That money went on general renovation as well as sorting out new heating, plumbing and electrics. They also planned to do a six-metre rear and side extension but needed planning permission. After doing the major renovation work, the results were clear to see. They had changed the doors and windows of the outside of the property and gave the inside interior a modern look, with grey kitchen work surfaces and grey furniture items.

The living space renovation was much the same, with modern furniture and an up-to-date look. That theme continues in the bathroom, with a grey base to the bath, grey sink and white toilet. The bedroom includes a lovely carpet in grey and the walls were also in the colour grey.

Ian Tudor, from estate agents Bonde Wolfe, was very complimentary of the changes, telling viewers they were ‘remarkable’. He told the programme: “It really is quite remarkable the transformation. They really have turned probably one of the worst houses on the road into easily, the best. It really is fantastic what they’ve done here.

“The standard of finish is excellent. The kitchen area in particular is first class. They’ve raised the kerb appeal. They’ve put new windows and doors on the property, in a lovely grey colour, which has become very modern and popular. So, it really does look great.”
