Force Gurkha 5-door spotted undisguised: Will Rival Mahindra Thar 5-door

Force has been working on a 5-door version of the Gurkha. We have seen numerous test mules of the upcoming SUV. Here, we have one that has not been camouflaged. The new pictures show us more details about the Gurkha 5-door. Once it is launched, it will go against the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door.

Design

The images are shared on Instagram by Abhijeet Mane. In the images, we can see that the 5-door Gurkha is significantly longer. From the images, we can see that the design of the SUV is pretty much the same. The headlamps are different when compared to the 3-door Gurkha. It seems like they are derived from the Force Trax whereas the 3-door Gurkha comes with circular LED headlamps.

There is a new grille that is the same one found on the 3-door grille. The profile and the design of the 5-door Gurkha are still boxy which does give it that butch road presence. There are massive side cladding and side steps also that help in easy ingress and egress. The rear is very similar to the 3-door Gurkha. There is a side-mounted tailgate and a spare wheel. A footrest has also been placed to help the occupants. All the badges on the SUV were covered. The SUV was running on spoked wheels with tyres that are quite wide.

Platform and dimensions

Force has increased the wheelbase and the length of the 5-door Gurkha by 400 mm. It now measures 2,800 mm whereas the wheelbase of the 3-door Gurkha is 2,400 mm. The height and width are expected to not change. The width will be 1,812 mm whereas the height will be 2,075 mm.

The added wheelbase has helped Force to place an additional set of rear doors. This makes it very easy for the rear occupants to get in or get out. As of now, in the 3-door Gurkha, rear occupants need to climb in by folding the front seats or through the tailgate which is a bit cumbersome. Because of the rear doors, there are also rear windows and an additional quarter window which is quite large. Force simply increased the length of the 3-door Gurkha’s C ladder-frame chassis to make the platform for the new 5-door one.

Seating configuration

We are expecting that Force will offer the 5-door Gurkha in different seating configurations. A test mule was spotted with six individual captain chairs which means that there every occupant would have ample amount of space. However, we are expecting that Force will also offer a version where there will be a bench seat for the middle row.

Engine and gearbox

Force is expected to use the same 2.6-litre diesel engine for the 5-door Gurkha that they use in the 3-door Gurkha. It produces 91 hp of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox that drives all four wheels. You get 4×4, a low range gearbox and manual locking front and rear differentials. In the spy shot, we can also see a snorkel that helps the engine to breathe better and increases the water wading capacity.
