Ready, steady, shop. After three lockdowns, it’s evident that the best kind of shopping is non-essential shopping. The reopening of the interiors stores doesn’t come a moment too soon for those of us who have missed stroking velvet cushions, selecting linen pillowslips and weighing chunky glassware in our hands. If the last months have been a depressing period for customers, it has been a bleaker time for retailers. John Lewis will not be reopening stores at Ashford, Tunbridge Wells, York and Sheffield.
